instruction, and training, which focuses on the area of interest
of each client: from specialized language instruction in aviation
communications for pilots and personnel who are non-native
speakers of English, to improved diction and performance for
voice-over talent, to executive English programs for multinational
business communications.
1. Accent Reduction/Modification – International
accents or regional dialects can be refined to a more universal
accent or standard American English.
Everyone speaks with an accent, even native English speakers.
However, in the United States, the most universally accepted
and understood accent is referred to as Standard American
English. Some regional dialects, as well as foreign accents,
interfere with accurate communication and may cause difficulties
in interpersonal and business situations. This course focuses
on the client learning standard American English pronunciation
and intonation to improve intelligibility.
2. Corporate Executive English Training
– Advanced English language training for American executives
as well as Internationals with emphasis on grammar, vocabulary
development, syntax, and diction.
Everyone needs a coach once in a while. This is an advanced
English course for professionals, executives, business people,
or individuals interested in personal development or advancing
in their careers. Focus is on learning and applying grammar
in both written and spoken situations, learning strategies
for vocabulary development and complex sentence structures,
and improving diction in spoken English.
3. Vocal Coaching for Actors, Voice-Overs,
and Talent – Training in the use of the voice for optimum
performance for professional voice-users: speakers, actors,
teachers, media and voice-over talent, salespeople, etc.
Although targeting the professional voice user, this course
is equally applicable for anyone interested in improving the
sound and use of his or her speaking voice. The client will
learn strategies for improving vocal performance through increased
knowledge of the vocal mechanism, various breathing techniques,
vocal hygiene methods, aspects of vocal vitality and quality,
and techniques to improve the voice across all parameters.
4. Plane English™ – Specialized
communications training for aviation professionals: private
or commercial pilots, air traffic controllers, mechanics,
and all aviation personnel.
Communications in aviation relies on the use of Standard
Aviation Terminology. Both the pilot and the air traffic controller
need to share the same information. Communication breakdowns,
which can lead to unsafe situations and accidents, can occur
due to a variety of factors including message length, speech
rate, pronunciation, intonation, and the use of non-standard
phraseology. This is a specialized course of study for professionals,
or students, to improve communication effectiveness and aviation
safety.
5. Educational Seminars – Communications
seminars and workshops are available in half-day, one-day,
or two-day formats, in any training category: Executive English,
Accent Reduction, Media Presentation, Aviation Communications,
etc.
Communications training seminars, interactive workshops,
and individual presentations can be organized either on- or
off-site and in a variety of formats to suit the client’s
and company’s specific requirements.
6. Media Presentation Training – Learn
professional skills to present the appropriate image in front
of the television camera, on stage, on video, or even in court.
Everyone may have 15 minutes of fame, so one should be prepared.
Depending on the format, the client will be trained to appear
and sound capable and effective to present the desired image
in front of the camera, or other discerning media. Some of
these professional techniques are specific for television
or video, while others may be used on stage or in live presentations.
7. Cross-Cultural Training – Improving
communications and understanding across cultural as well as
gender lines can affect the bottom line.
Every culture has values that are similar to every other
culture. It is the demonstration and interpretation of these
values that can cause some misunderstandings. Clients learn
how to understand and respect another’s cultural values without
losing the sense of their own.
8. Listening Skills – Learn active listening
skills, a vital component of communication, including non-verbal
communication, vocal dynamics, and paralanguage.
Listening skills are the frequently overlooked component
of communication. Often it is within this area that major
miscommunications occur. Learn techniques and strategies to
improve your active listening skills so that communication
becomes much more effective with increased comprehension and
interpretation of the verbal and non-verbal messages sent
by both speaker and listener.
9. Public Speaking – Develop expertise
and confidence in speaking before any group, large or small.
Speaking in public, whether before a small group of one’s
co-workers or a large anonymous audience, is a frequent occurrence
in business. Speaking in public is also a terrifying experience
for many people. Learning how to maintain composure, demonstrate
confidence and speak effectively are skills that can be developed
in anyone.
10. Writing Skills – Improve written
communication skills for emails, reports, business letters,
theses, dissertations, presentations, etc.
Effective communications, in business, medicine, or academics,
relies on the written word. It is important to present a total
intelligent image of oneself in whether writing emails, inter-office
memos, or reports. This intensive course targets vocabulary
development, grammar usage, structure and organization of
ideas, and editing for clarity.
